Joseph Chiffonny is a French painter born Joseph Augustin Chiffonny on 6 April 1857 in Dreux and died on 7 March 1923 in Guainville (Eure-et-Loir). He lived several years in Sologne, in Villeny, then in Lanthenay. He painted numerous hunting dogs, such as setters. Extract from the journal « La Sologne and its past », no. 77: "Joseph Chiffonny was discovered by Eric Millet during historical research for which he is passionate. The enumeration of the censuses of Villeny draws the author’s attention to a profession uncommon in a Solognot village at the beginning of the 20th century: painter. The career of this artist is remarkable, moving from the Paris cabaret stage to painting. Having lived several years in Sologne, in Villeny, then in Lanthenay, he drew from there an inspiration full of charm. From this period, some canvases are known, others lie with private individuals and will appear at sales in France or abroad. DIMENSIONS: 27 x 35 cm CONDITION: good FRAME: not framed
