A pair of vintage sterling silver Judaica tefillin covers, stamped, "K. PASTON STERLING NEW YORK" K. Paston was an American silversmith or manufacturer based in New York known for sterling silver Judaica. Left case: Inscribed (Shel Yad), meaning "of the hand/arm," for the Tefillin Shel Yad (arm tefillin). The inscription relates to the blessing: "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to don tefillin." Right case: Inscribed (Shel Rosh), meaning "of the head," for the Tefillin Shel Rosh (head tefillin). The inscription relates to the blessing: "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning the mitzvah of tefillin." Accompanied by the corresponding battim (tefillin boxes) and an appraisal certificate dated 5/29/78. Total approx. weight of the empty sterling cases is 8.35 troy oz (gross). From a Bedford Hills, NY estate. Dimensions: Cases measure approx. 2.4" w x 2.8" d x 2.1" h. Condition: This item is being sold as is. We cannot confirm whether the Hebrew script in the battim is kosher by halachic standards. Interested buyers are encouraged to inspect the item in person or consult a qualified authority for ritual suitability. Due the intensive labor involved, no further photographs or condition reports will be provided regarding the battim. The wooden case shows evidence of breakage and has been repaired with adhesive.
