Jugendstil Tile - Manufactures Céramiques d'Hemixem...

This is an original antique Art Nouveau tile made by Manufactures Céramiques d'Hemixem Gilliot & Cie, Hemiksem, Belgium. The decoration of stylized floral motifs is relief-embossed using the dust-pressed technique, in which clay powder is pressed under high pressure into a mold. The tile is in good condition with only some light signs of wear, such as fine scratches in the dark background glaze. The reverse side is stamped with an H, which is common for this factory and refers to the establishment location: Hemiksem.
