The color of K2 jasper stands out for a unique and striking contrast: • Base: A brilliant pale white-gray background, speckled with tiny black and dark gray specks (typical of the granite). • Inclusions: Features circular spots or "drops" of electric blue. K2 granite is a fascinating and unique gemstone that is a natural blend of white granite and intense blue azurite. Its name comes directly from Mount K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram range (on the border between Pakistan and China), which is the only known place on the planet where it is mined. Main characteristics of the K2 stone • Geological composition: The base or matrix of the stone is formed by white and gray granite (composed of quartz, feldspar, and biotite). What makes it extremely rare is that it contains perfectly spherical azurite inclusions, a copper mineral with an electric blue that is not usually associated with igneous rocks like granite. • Extreme extraction: Because it is found only on the slopes of the remote and inhospitable Karakoram range at high altitude, its collection and mining are extremely difficult and subject to the harsh climate of the area. • Use in jewelry: Its great beauty lies in the striking visual contrast between the speckled white background and the blue "drops."
