Katsushika Hokusai - "The Big Wave, 1826-1833". Gesigneerd in de plaat.

Katsushika Hokusai: Title: "The Big Wave, 1826-1833". (from 100 Views of Mount Fuji) Signed on the plate. Authorized color offset lithograph, produced premium matte (non-reflective) and with high color intensity. Condition: the work is in excellent condition. Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a renowned Japanese ukiyo-e artist and jokester, known for his contributions to Japanese art and his innovative techniques that influenced both Japanese and Western art. His career spanned more than 70 years, during which he produced an extensive body of works, including prints, paintings and book illustrations. Hokusai is especially known for his series 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji,' which reflects his mastery of landscapes and his ability to combine traditional Japanese techniques with new perspectives and bold compositions. Hokusai's art is characterized by his dynamic use of color, detailed depictions of nature, and a distinctive sense of movement. His works often depict landscapes, daily life, and spiritual themes from Edo-period Japan. He was a pioneer in the use of Prussian blue, a vividly imported pigment that became a hallmark of many of his prints. The Great Wave (from 100 Views of Mount Fuji) is Hokusai's most iconic work. The piece features a colossal wave towering over small boats, with Mount Fuji calmly visible in the background. The contrast between the powerful wave and the serene mountain emphasizes themes of nature's dominance and human resilience. The precise detailing of the wave’s curls, foam, and the use of Prussian blue make it a masterwork of composition and technique. Hokusai's influence remains enduring; he inspires artists worldwide and confirms his reputation as one of the greatest and most influential artists of Japan.
