Kienzle – Vintage German Mechanical Watch – Gold Plated – Silver Dial – 17 Jewels – Shockproof – Water Protected – 1960-1969 A classic vintage Kienzle mechanical wristwatch from the 1960s, combining understated German design with the warm elegance of a gold plated case and a beautifully balanced silver-tone dial. The dial features applied gold-tone baton hour markers, with darker contrasting inserts at the cardinal positions, complemented by matching gold-tone hands and a slender central seconds hand. The subtle sunburst finish gives the dial additional depth while maintaining the restrained aesthetic characteristic of mid-century German watches. The dial is signed “Kienzle – 17 Jewels”, together with “Shockproof – Waterprotected”, highlighting the practical mechanical construction of the watch. The gold plated case presents scratches, small marks and areas of natural wear to the plating, particularly around the lugs and case edges. The stainless steel case back shows scratches and surface marks from normal use and previous handling. The silver-tone dial is well preserved overall, with light signs of ageing visible under close inspection. The applied indexes and hands show some age-related patina and surface wear while retaining their attractive original vintage appearance. The acrylic crystal shows normal signs of use and light surface scratches. Although the dial and case back indicate “Waterprotected,” the watch has not been tested for water resistance, therefore water resistance is not guaranteed. Story & Heritage Kienzle is one of the historic names of German watchmaking, with roots dating back to the 19th century. The company became an important producer of clocks and watches in Germany, combining industrial production with reliable mechanical engineering and accessible design. By the mid-20th century, Kienzle was producing wristwatches that reflected the clean and functional aesthetic of post-war German design. Mechanical movements, restrained dials and practical features such as shock protection were characteristic of many watches from this era. This example captures that period particularly well. Its slim gold plated case, silver sunburst dial, applied baton indexes and 17-jewel mechanical movement create an elegant yet understated vintage appearance. A charming German mechanical watch for collectors who appreciate authentic 1960s design, traditional manual-winding movements and classic European watchmaking. Internal Reference Number - SOA-32
