Reference: Hoover, Handbook of Coins of Macedon and Its Neighbors, 882. Philip II transformed Macedon from a weakened kingdom into the dominant power of Greece. He reorganized the army, developed the Macedonian phalanx, expanded through diplomacy and conquest, and defeated the allied Greek cities at Chaeronea in 338 BC. He then created the League of Corinth, laying the political and military foundations for the conquests of his son Alexander the Great.
