The Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Coupé (W188 II) is an extremely rare, hand-built luxury sports car from the 1950s. Between 1955 and 1958, only 98 units of this coupé were produced. It is one of the brand's most exclusive post-war models. * Introduction: Unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, September 1955 as the successor to the 300 S * Technology: The SC uses mechanical fuel injection (Einspritzmotor) * Performance: The 3.0-liter inline-six produced 175 hp, good for a top speed of 175 km/h * Rarity: Worldwide, there are estimated to be around 70 units left Only 98 built units, the pinnacle of post-war Mercedes-Benz engineering. The Mercedes-Benz 300 series from the 1950s is generally regarded as the last truly hand-built model of the company. With styling that bridged pre-war elegance and modern, streamlined simplicity, each example was built on an oval tubular frame with independent suspension and equipped with a six-cylinder engine. The Coupé radiated an unsurpassed build quality, with the finest materials, including beautifully polished woodwork and the thickest, richest leather stretched over bucket-like seats. The 300 SC Coupé was, at the time, pricier than the iconic 300 SL "Gullwing". Today, it is a highly sought-after classic for collectors.
