Kyanite ring / new Set in 925 Sterling silver Total weight: 0.94 g 5.3 mm x 5.1 mm new and unworn Ring size: EU 54 - 55 (sits exactly between) UK N - O US 7.0 FR 14 - 15 Inner diameter: 17.35 mm Kyanite, also called cyanite, disthen, or sappharite, is a mineral from the mineral class of “silicates and germanates.” It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system with the chemical composition Al2[O|SiO4], so chemically speaking it is an aluminum silicate. Structurally, it belongs to the inosilicates. Kyanite predominantly develops prismatic to tabular crystals with a glassy luster on the surfaces, but it also occurs in fibrous or granular to massive mineral aggregates. In pure form, kyanite is colorless and transparent. Due to multiple refractions of light caused by lattice defects or polycrystalline development, it can also appear white and, due to trace impurities, take on hues from light- to dark-blue, blue-violet, greenish to brownish and rarely reddish, with transparency accordingly decreasing.
