λ ATTRIBUTED TO FRANK DOBSON (BRITISH 1886-1963), SEATED TORSO

λ ATTRIBUTED TO FRANK DOBSON (BRITISH 1886-1963) SEATED TORSO Bronze Signed with initials Height: 17 cm (6 ¾ in.) The female form particularly inspired Dobson throughout his career, both in his sculptures and drawings and the present sculpture appears to relate to the sculptor’s work from the late 1920s. A similar torso, a study for the Ham Hill Torso 2, conceived circa 1928, was sold at auction in November 2020. There is another study with similarly incised initials. Furthermore there are also several drawings of a similar subject. However, due to the fact that Dobson’s studio was badly damaged during World War II and much of his archive and early work was lost, it is often difficult to tie up specific works with the artist. Condition Report: The work appears to be in good condition, with some slight surface dust to the dips and crevices of the work.
