λ ERTÉ (FRENCH, 1892-1990) FASHION DESIGN, 1925 Pen and ink Designed for Harper's Bazaar June 1925 issue Signed lower right; dated, numbered with studio and 'Composition originale' stamp and 'Page 75 /HARPER'S BAZAR/ Feature Erté/ Issue June, Number 43/ 4-28-25' stamped and handwritten with various other notes in pencil verso 29cm x 23cm Provenance:Acquired directly from the artist and thence by descent The Russian-born French artist and designer Romain de Tirtoff, known universally as Erté, was a defining pioneer of the Art Deco style. In 1915, he entered into a landmark exclusive collaboration with the premier American fashion magazine Harper's Bazar (now known as Harper's Bazaar after a name change in 1929/1930), a prolific creative partnership that famously spanned over two decades. Between 1915 and 1936, Erté shaped the visual landscape of modern luxury by designing over 240 covers and providing hundreds of interior fashion illustrations for the publication. The original production stamp preserved on the verso of the present lot details its preparation for the June 1925 issue. Received and processed by the editorial offices on 28 April 1925, the piece is recorded under inventory tracking number 43, registering its place in the publication's layout sequence.
