LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Tales and Short Stories in Verse. Amsterdam [Paris], n.p., 1762. 2 volumes, in-8, olive-green morocco leather, triple gilt fillet, floral motifs at the corners, coat of arms in the center, plain embossed spine, interior roulette, salmon-colored silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges (L. Chenu). Famous edition, known as the “Fermiers généraux” edition, illustrated with 2 portraits, 80 figures by Eisen, vignettes, and end-piece illustrations by Choffard. This copy is housed in a contemporary morocco leather binding signed by Louis Chenu, featuring an unidentified coat of arms. Stains on folio O7 of Volume II, some water stains, and foxing. Restoration to the binding of Volume II (upper hinge, jaw of the second cover, and upper cap).
