Labat & Pugibet

Labat & Pugibet – Pair of solid-silver salt containers 950‰, Minerva 1st title, Paris around 1880–1897 Description: Fine pair of French solid-silver salt cellars 950‰, made in Paris by the silversmiths Labat & Pugibet, active from 1877 to 1897. The mounts are finely lacy and chased in a rich Neo-Renaissance / troubadour-style decor, composed of scrolling foliage, chimeras, fantastical mascarons, and small hanging elements. Each salt cellar rests on three small pierced feet. Both pieces retain their glass/crystal bowls, perfectly fitted to the mounts. Visible hallmarks include: - Minerva 1st title, French guarantee for 950‰ silver; - maker’s mark L & P, with the shoemaker’s awl, attributed to Labat & Pugibet. Net silver weight: 19.05 g per salt cellar, i.e. 38.10 g of 950‰ solid silver in total, excluding the bowls. Fine silver weight: approximately 36.20 g. Overall condition very satisfactory for late 19th-century pieces, with signs of use and light patina consistent with age. Decor well preserved and highly legible. The bowls are present; their exact condition is visible in the photographs. Beautiful pair of antique Parisian silversmith work, interesting for its identified maker, its especially rich decoration, and its preservation with both glass/crystal fittings.
