Laboratorio artigianale locale del Gujarat Mirror Work...

Large and rare hand-embroidered textile panel from western India, attributed to the Kutch (Gujarat) tradition, one of the most renowned areas for the production of decorative mirror embroidery (Shisha embroidery or Abhla Bharat). 176 × 112 cm (No.7) The work is made on natural cotton support and presents a remarkable multicolored decoration consisting of floral motifs, vegetal elements and a pair of central anthropomorphic figures. The surface is enriched by numerous Shisha mirrors applied individually and fixed with elaborate embroidery stitches, a traditional technique that characterizes the ceremonial and decorative textiles of the Ahir, Rabari and Meghwal communities of Gujarat. The tapestry testifies to entirely manual workmanship and bears the natural traces of time: widespread wear, some embroidery losses, missing mirrors, localized discolorations and small antique restorations. These characteristics confirm its authenticity and actual use in its original context. P.S. This piece is part of a rich collection of tapestries of various sizes, all hand-embroidered with different colors, patterns and ages. Stay tuned for upcoming publications or contact me if you would like further information. For multiple purchases, I offer combined shipping to optimize transportation costs.
