Lantern - Bronze - Pancha Alati 19th Century

Authentic nineteenth-century Indian ritual oil lamp (Diya or Pancharati), cast in bronze, featuring a two-base circular foundation connected by a horizontal arm. The long branch-shaped handle, joined to the main body by a decorative knot, is a classic design widespread in central and western India (regions such as Maharashtra or Gujarat). The front houses a cup for oil topped by a dome-shaped pierced cover (jali) that serves both as a diffuser for incense (dhoop) and as protection for the inner flame. The dark appearance, rough surface texture, and oxidation patina indicate an object that has undergone long ritual use or prolonged exposure to the elements, consistent with artifacts dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s.
