Large 1900s Akimel O'odham Pima Coiled Willow Basket

Native American, Southwestern United States, Akimel O'odham (Pima), ca. 1900s CE. A superb large coiled basket woven from natural materials native to the Arizona desert region. The structure is composed of a bundled cattail foundation coiled tightly with lighter willow splints and accented by darker devil's claw or yucca root stitches. The exterior displays a series of striking geometric fret motifs that spiral around the body, forming a continuous labyrinth-like design. Size: 15.5" W x 6.5" H (39.4 cm x 16.5 cm) Item # 199340
