Large Bar Brooch With Diamonds & Sapphires in Platinum, c. 1910

Wintery white glows this brooch, in the icy triad of diamonds, sapphires and platinum. A large, oval old European cut diamond of about 0.80 ct sparkles in the center of the large brooch. To the left and right, two more diamonds are set in star-like settings, and to the outside, two sky-blue sapphires in carré settings complete the composition. The front of the brooch is forged entirely of platinum, only the pin is made of yellow gold. A simple, elegant openwork pattern fills the spaces between the gemstones. The cool, graphic design language corresponds to the fashion of the years around 1910 and already reveals the impulses from which Art Deco was to develop. At 9.0 cm long, the brooch is unusually long, but does not appear bulky due to the filigree workmanship. It is wonderfully suited to hold a scarf or to be worn on the lapel.
