It is hardly part of the repertoire of modern goldsmiths and jewelers - but at the beginning of the 20th century, the bar brooch was one of the most popular pieces of jewellery. Gold and pearls or gemstones for the daytime, and high-quality diamond pins for the evening were found in the jewellery box of almost every lady. The present pin is a particularly splendid specimen of this type, as it is richly set with pearls and diamonds. A total of 26 sparkling old-cut diamonds are set in platinum. Three pearls are placed between the diamonds as the main setting of this luxurious piece of jewelry. A curved scalloped edge adds a touch of softness to the geometric millegrains. The pearls add tension to the symmetrical design, as each one is a little different. One of the small pearls is overlaid with a grayish-pink luster and is slightly baroque, while the other is lightly golden. The center pearl, in turn, is a cool platinum white with pink and green iridescent luster. Even today, the pin invites versatile, creative use, such as on a lapel, tie or scarf. The needle is very well preserved. We could discover it in the Rhineland and in Germany it was also made.
