Large colonial oil painting of Cuzco - 17th century - early 18th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions 122 x 83 / 132 x 93 cm. Devotional portrait of a saintly bishop or Doctor of the Church seated in his study, with quill and inkwell, turned towards a celestial vision that bursts forth from the top of the painting. The figure wears a rich cope decorated with floral motifs and is surrounded by books, elements that allude to his wisdom and doctrinal work. The work combines hieratic frontality, meticulous ornamentation, and vibrant color, characteristic features of late 17th-century colonial painting, where iconographic solemnity is combined with a refined decorative intent. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
