A sparkling branch adorned with dew-kissed blossoms served as the inspiration for this brooch. A total of fifty-one rose-cut diamonds bathe the piece in a nostalgic glow. The rose cut, known since the 16th century but rarely used today, features triangular facets that give the diamond a uniquely soft, characteristic sparkle. It is a shimmering, subtle radiance that once unfolded its full beauty by candlelight – the cut originating, after all, from a time before the use of electricity. The largest rose used here is an Amsterdam rose with 24 facets; the smaller ones are primarily Antwerp roses with twelve facets. The brooch bears no hallmark, but it was likely made in the Netherlands, where the rose cut originated. Known there as a takbroche – or twig brooch – floral brooches set with rose-cut diamonds were highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A typical example of its kind, this brooch is crafted from silver, featuring a back plate and pin made of rose gold.
