Zimbabwean cotton paintings are unique, handcrafted pieces that are fired in a kiln at very high temperature, which permanently fixes the dye (natural pigments). They can therefore be machine washed without losing their brilliance. This artisanal craft is called “Sadza batik,” named after the sadza or corn starch used to delineate the outlines of the figures on the cotton.
