Late Deco 7.40ct Sapphire and 2.40ct Diamond Halo Ring, c.1940s

A remarkable 7.40 carat, transparent blue, natural sapphire is the centre of this stunning ring. There is no evidence of heat treatment in this sapphire. It is wrapped within a scalloped border of transitional cut diamonds, which also cascade down the shoulders of the ring. This stunning sapphire is hand-set within four, 18 carat yellow gold claws, and the balance of the ring is comprised of platinum. This combination of metals was typical of the 1940s era, as the platinum allowed the diamonds to truly shine through. The transitional cut diamonds have a total to 2.40 carat and have an estimated grading of G for colour and VS2 for clarity. The ring’s original vintage setting has a dramatic openwork gallery and subtle millegrain details.
