LATE ELAMITE BRONZE FIGURAL VESSEL IN THE FORM OF A BULL

Ca. 1000 - 800 BC. A bronze vessel in the shape of a powerfully built bull standing foursquare, with a rounded body, arched hindquarters, sturdy tapering legs, and broad stylised hooves. The animal’s sex is indicated beneath the belly, while a prominent dewlap lends weight to the forequarters. Its carefully modelled head has a rounded muzzle, raised almond-shaped eyes, small ears, and long, grooved horns sweeping upwards. A tall cylindrical neck with a wide, everted rim rises vertically from the back to form the vessel’s opening. The surface bears a mottled green and blue-green patina, darker accretions, minor pitting, and areas of exposed metal.
