Appreciating Antiquities "The Pleasure of Antiquities" is an ink-and-color painting on silk by Tu Chin/Du Jin (c. 1465-1509) of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). This celebrated work is exhibited at the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. Originally, it may have been two hanging-scroll panels mounted as a screen. Reflecting an appreciation of antiquities, it depicts leisure activities related to chess, calligraphy, the qin (guqin) and painting, associated with the literati. The style is simple and elegant, in the pure academic tradition of the Southern Song (1127-1279). The finesse of Tu Chin's brushwork, visible in the figures shown here, greatly influenced the style of Tang Yin from mid-career. Le Dauphin The Le Dauphin company was founded in January 1966 by Maurice Tournu, initially as a small lampshade manufacturing business. A first factory was built in 1970. In the 1980s, it employed more than 250 people and produced over 50,000 lamps per year. Le Dauphin: Located in the heart of the Rhône-Alpes region, the Le Dauphin brand is renowned for its high-end luminaires and timeless style. Its workshop is in Saint-Marcellin, about fifty kilometers from Grenoble. Le Dauphin created a wide range of luminaires, from classical ceramics to decorated metal, including the brilliance of hand-cut glass. "Dressing light so that it becomes a source of decoration" was the company motto. The company’s name derives from the ancient name of the province where it is located: Dauphiné. Le Dauphin no longer exists. The establishment ceased activities in 2009 and was struck off the trade register in 2013. Its website remained online until 2017.
