Leopoldo Metlicovitz - Montevideo – Fiestas Municipales - 1970s

Fascinating advertising manifesto drawn by Leopoldo Metlicovitz dedicated to the Montevideo Municipal Festivals for the 1922-1923 season. Note well: This is a later edition probably from the 70s. The image presents an elegant dancing female figure scattering rose petals as she emerges from the waves of the sea, with the nighttime skyline and fireworks in the background. The composition, very theatrical and dynamic, recalls the aesthetics of the great tourist and celebratory posters of the early decades of the 20th century, between Art Nouveau and the first developments of Art Deco. The subject is particularly evocative: the allegorical figure seems to embody the city of Montevideo and the festive spirit of the municipal celebrations. The use of deep, contrasting colors — the dark sky, the intense green of the lower band and the bright red of the petals — makes the poster extremely decorative and of great visual impact. !!!
