Loren Artemis (XX-XXI) - La soglia dei sogni

Artist: Loren Artemis Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 40 x 30 cm Title: The threshold of dreams In this oil on canvas of 40 × 30 cm, Loren Artemis depicts a black cat seated on the windowsill of an opening, immersed in an intense play of colors and perspectives. Seen in profile, with the head slightly raised and the gaze directed to the right, the feline becomes the emotional center of the composition: a silent and vigilant presence, that seems to watch something beyond visible space. The dark body stands out against a luminous background, traversed by golden yellow and orange tones. The coat is modeled through subtle gray and silver reflections, which follow the volume of the back, chest and thigh, suggesting the softness of the fur. The ears erect, the small snout and the golden-green eye give the figure an attentive expression. The tail, laid along the windowsill, accompanies the base of the composition with a delicate curve, balancing the verticality of the pose. Around the cat a succession of painted rectangular bands develops, similar to concentric frames, in which carmine red and warm yellow meet turquoise, blue, and petrol blue. This structure creates an illusion of depth: the diagonal edges, the shadowed areas and the color variations transform the opening into a space suspended between real architecture and painterly invention. The contrast between warm and cool colors heightens the brightness of the background and makes the silhouette of the feline even more striking. A diagonal of light crosses the orange surface, introducing a discreet movement into the scene’s quiet. The brushstrokes, recognizable especially in the broad expanses and along the margins of the opening, retain a spontaneity that softens the geometric rigor of the whole. Alongside the finer definition of the cat, there thus emerges a free and expressive environmental construction, entrusted to the strength of color. The work transforms a daily moment into an intimate and contemplative image. The windowsill becomes a threshold between a gathered space and an elsewhere left to the imagination; the cat, still but absorbed, guards its passage. From this arises a scene of quiet waiting, in which chromatic vitality and the silence of the figure coexist in a suggestive balance.
