Louise Michel - Lettre autographe signée pour dénoncer le...

Very beautiful letter from Louise Michel, with the restrained and determined character that marks her in her defense. "Friends warn me through a Belgian newspaper and accuse me of my personal affairs in a way that forces me to reply, since it is not really about me at all. I am trying to make this reply as tactful as possible. I will therefore say only this: for the past two years, going to three or four meetings every day, I have not been able to work sufficiently; friends have felt obliged to help me — especially those mentioned in the article in question [Clemenceau, Rochefort?] — and who had already taken care of my mother during my prison sentence, I ADD NOTHING." (signed) LOUISE MICHEL June 1, 1889 (The Belgian newspaper that particularly denigrated Louise Michel during the centennial of the French Revolution is L’Indépendance belge.) (To note: the recipient’s header has been removed previously.) (Origin Roumet) Louise Michel (1830 - 1905) schoolteacher, writer, anarchist activist and one of the major figures of the Paris Commune. In 1889, she is therefore still in Paris — a great year for her, the Paris Workers’ International Socialist Congress (July 1889), the seedbed of the dissolved First International, of which she was a figure. She then gives numerous lectures in France and Belgium. Sale in the EU only for costly and lengthy customs reasons.
