Low-profile ceramic bowl, Ancient Israel culture, Iron Age (1200-700

Low-profile ceramic bowl, Ancient Israel culture, Iron Age (1200-700

Descriptio Low-profile ceramic bowl. Modeled and fired ceramic. Dimensions: 5 cm high x 16 cm in diameter. This interesting ceramic bowl belongs to the pottery tradition of the ancient Levant during the Iron Age, a historical period linked to the development of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah and the consolidation of important urban and rural settlements in the territory of Canaan. The piece has an open and shallow structure with balanced proportions, designed to facilitate its use in domestic activities related to the preparation, presentation, and consumption of food. Its design corresponds to a typology widely used in the communities of the ancient Near East, where ceramic vessels were essential elements of everyday household goods. During the first millennium BC, pottery production in the region experienced remarkable development, characterized by the manufacture of functional vessels with simple and durable forms, adapted to the needs of domestic life. Low-profile bowls were commonly used for serving solid and liquid foods, although certain examples could also be used in ceremonial or religious contexts. The formal simplicity of these pieces reflects the importance of functionality in the pottery of the period, as well as the continuity of craft traditions passed down through generations. The Hebron region, located south of Jerusalem, was an important population center during antiquity and is closely linked to the history of the ancient Israelite kingdoms and various events recorded in biblical texts. Ceramic materials recovered from this area provide fundamental insights into the diet, trade, and customs of its inhabitants. The piece is in good overall condition, with slight irregularities and surface wear typical of its age. Its archaeological nature and historical provenance make it an interesting testament to the material culture of the Holy Land during the biblical period. Provenance: Hebron, south of Jerusalem, Holy Land; found before 1978. Lot in international warehouse (outside the EU). For shipments to the European Union, import duties and/or taxes will be applied and are the responsibility of the buyer.
