Kasai Figure - very nice details - Luba, Democratic Republic of Congo, early 20th century Wood 13 cm height with stand, 10,5 cm height without stand. Good Contidion. Nice ritual patina. Provenance: Private collection, Dutch, formed in 1950-1960. Small anthropomorphic Luba-Kasai figure carved in hardwood, representing a seated figure with arms crossed along the face, in an introspective attitude characteristic of Luba statuary. The face is finely modeled, with balanced features, and the hairstyle is delicately incised. The figure has a ritual charge at the top of the head, indicating a symbolic or ritual function. Old brown patina, slightly glossy, with wear and minor marks consistent with age and use.
