Luristan Bronze Bead Necklace with Seljuk Pendant

Western Asia, Iran, Luristan and Seljuk. A strand of graduated bronze beads, with a matte grey-green patina consistent with burial, gathered toward a small openwork pendant at the center. The beads, associated with the workshops of ancient Luristan in the Zagros highlands, are annular and disc forms, with irregular contours consistent with hand-casting. Suspended below is a later Seljuk pendant, a crescent-form amulet enclosing a pierced ring above a small rosette medallion, the metal with a silvery tone. Bronze ornaments of this type were worn as personal adornment across the Iranian plateau in antiquity. The pairing of Bronze Age beads with a medieval pendant reflects a later assembly of the piece as an heirloom or curiosity grouping.
