Luristan Iron Age Bronze Cloak Pin & Bell

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, Iron Age, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A pair of bronze items likely intended as grave offerings: a cloak pin with projecting forms that may represent abstract ibex heads or a totemic "master of animals" motif, and a bell with a large pellet enclosed within its conical cage that still emits a fine sound, possibly modeled after horse trappings and symbolic of the vital role horses played in Luristan culture. Size of bell: 2" W x 3.75" H (5.1 cm x 9.5 cm) Item # 196718
