All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Luxurious Brooch with a Colombian Emerald & Diamonds in Platinum, c. 1930

This brooch sparkles thanks to the interplay of materials typical of the Art Deco period: luxurious platinum, a precious colored gemstone—the emerald—and a multitude of white diamonds. The piece of jewellery is shaped like a horizontally oriented rectangle, a classic jewelry form of the era. The openwork center section showcases a perfect, large emerald with an intense green luster in the classic emerald cut. The 3.10-carat stone originates from Colombia, as confirmed by two gemological reports. Colombia has always been the most sought-after source of fine emeralds. Its colour is intense, and the stone captivates with its exceptionally high clarity. It is a so-called “Minor Oil” emerald; the oil treatment typical for emeralds is kept to a minimum here. A total of 3.77 ct of diamonds accompany the emerald, creating a shimmering play of light. A special piece of wearable jewelry history, perfectly preserved and seemingly animated by an inner fire.
