Magnificent - Mask - Kongo - DR Congo (No reserve price)

This mask was painted in a similar manner. Although the mask has naturalistic features, it was meant to channel supernatural forces through the nganga during divination sessions. It was consulted to find the causes of someone’s illness or misfortune. During the masked performances, the diviner would sometimes enter a trance in order to communicate with the world of spirits, who would then convey recommendations to him.
