Compensation-pool planimeter in a purple velvet case • labeled 'Maho No 60' • Germany • 1930s Maho planimeter in its original case: black arm with gold inscription 'Maho No 60', carriage with counting wheel and micrometer drum, glossy ruler with graduations. The model is compared to a museum specimen. Maho compensation-pool planimeter No. 60 from Pfronten, 1930s, in the original case with purple velvet. The instrument measures the area of a figure on a map or drawing: the tracer traces the outline, the index reads the result. What distinguishes this specimen: the gold inscription 'Maho No 60' on the black arm, against the purple velvet. In one glance: Material: shiny metal, black-finished arm; case with purple velvet Dimensions: case 26.5 x 9.5 x 4 cm Weight: 570 g with case Brand: Maho; gold inscription 'Maho No 60' on the black arm; no other brand visible Dating: 1930s; museum specimen of this model carries 1936 Provenance: private collection of technical antique tools Description and context: The case has a black molded lid and section with purple velvet compartments. Inside lie the carriage with counting wheel and micrometer drum, a glossy ruler with graduations, the black arm, and a round chromed disk. A screw, pen, and tool lie loose in the lower compartment. Maho, based in Pfronten (Allgäu), manufactured precision instruments, including planimeters. The name is in gold letters on the black arm. The Egge Museum in Norway preserves the same model in the same case; a university inventory in Würzburg mentions the type 60 as a compensation-pool planimeter from MAHO, Pfronten. Condition: Good. Case: slight wear on the edges. Velvet: dust and hairs. Metal parts: clean, no rust or damage visible. Components: screw, pen, and tool lie loose. Lid: shows imprint of a rod and a block; what lay there has not been determined. Index: not tested. See the images. In the interior: Opened on a shelf, the case reveals the black metal against the purple velvet. When closed, it fits like a compact little box on a bookshelf or desk. Shipping: Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, with a double box for especially delicate items. Always insured and shipped with Track & Trace. See feedback from previous buyers. Description and sources: Marked Maho No 60; the maker is Maho, Pfronten (Allgäu). This rests on the inscription, the Würzburg inventory of the type 60, and the visual comparison with the museum specimen (Egge Museum, inventory number EGG.15473). Other planimeter manufacturers, Coradi, Amsler, and Ott, fail the inscription and image comparison. Dating rests on an assessment of the original case and the museum specimen bearing the year 1936."} } } {
