Makayhos - [Canvas] Pocket Monsters – Gaming Nostalgia

The work depicts iconic creatures including Pikachu, Charizard, Mew, and Clefairy together with classic portable video game elements, a Pokédex and a Poké Ball, coming to life and rising tridimensionally above consoles and cartridges. The dynamic composition shows the figures emerging forcefully from the stone-like matter, surrounded by a finely stratified and fractured marble surface. The restrained gesture of the creatures and the harmony of the elements recreate an eternal condition of nostalgia and youthful energy, indissolubly fusing the subjects with the stony background. The precious golden veining that runs through the sculptural surface and the frame explicitly references the practice of Kintsugi, highlighting the value of cracks to symbolize the beauty of memory, resilience, and the reassembly of childhood memories tied to collecting. It should be noted that the work is not a real marble relief or physical sculpture, but rather the visual effect of a 2D canvas designed to offer an optical illusion of exceptional depth and material thickness. A conceptual collectible artwork, where videogame imagination and pop culture meet the rigor of classical sculpture and the philosophy of imperfection.
