Obv: علي (“ʿAli”) within a circular cartouche; around, السلطان الملك المنصور (“The Sultan, al-Malik al-Mansur”). Rev: Fleur-de-lis within a linear circle; ضرب بدمشق سنة [التاريخ] (“Struck in Damascus in the year [date]”) around. Effective power rested with senior Mamluk commanders, among whom Barquq became increasingly influential. His reign belongs to the final years of Qalawunid rule, when descendants of earlier sultans retained the throne while military leaders controlled much of the government.
