This beautiful object is a classic Art Nouveau bonbonnière (also called bonbonnière or biscuit/sugar dish). It was made by the Swedish manufacturer GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget) around 1900 to 1920. The piece fits perfectly with the stamps and can be described as follows: The mount: The curved, tall handle and the ornamental foot are made of the aforementioned silver-plated brass (M.S.). The floral, flowing shapes and the knob on the lid are typical stylistic elements of Art Nouveau. The glass body: The container itself is made of frosted (matte) glass, decorated with period-typical hand-painted enamel decoration. One can see green grape leaves, fine gold tendrils, and blue grapes. Such ostentatious tins were a popular eye-catching feature on the coffee table in well-to-do bourgeois households in the early 20th century, used to serve fine pralines, confectionery, or sugar pieces. A very beautiful, collectible piece of Swedish artisanal history!
