Beautiful set of five volumes from the prestigious Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, published by Gallimard, bringing together two major figures of 20th-century French literature: Marcel Proust and Paul Éluard. The set includes three volumes of the old critical edition of In Search of Lost Time and the two volumes of Paul Éluard’s Complete Works, in first printings of 1968. Detail of the five volumes: Marcel Proust – In Search of Lost Time Text established and presented by Pierre Clarac and André Ferré. * Tome I – Volume No. 100 of the collection. Printed on 14 June 1968. * Tome II – Volume No. 101. Printed on 10 February 1966. * Tome III – Volume No. 102. Printed on 14 March 1966. Old critical edition in three volumes, originally published in 1954 and since replaced by a new four-volume edition. Paul Éluard – Complete Works Preface and chronology by Lucien Scheler. Texts established and annotated by Marcelle Dumas and Lucien Scheler. * Tome I – Volume No. 200. First printing, printed on 5 April 1968. * Tome II – Volume No. 201. First printing, printed on 11 April 1968. The two volumes constitute the first edition of Éluard’s Complete Works in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, gathered here in their two first printings of 1968. Condition: Very good overall condition for volumes nearly sixty years old. The interiors are remarkably fresh, and could be considered near-new: clean paper, pages well preserved and excellent binding. The publisher’s soft brown leather bindings are in very, very good condition, with their elegant gilt and green spine labels. Uniform spines and the overall appearance is particularly pleasing visually. The five original illustrated dust jackets are present and well preserved, with some discreet signs of aging and light handling marks. A coherent bibliophile collection, pairing novel and poetry, with particular interest in the presence of Éluard’s first two printings and Proust’s old critical edition. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
