All auctions / Contemporary Art / Marco Igliozzi - 178 Fratture

178 Fractures is a contemporary sculpture entirely handmade using recovered carbon steel. The work represents a stylized heart, broken and reassembled several times; it is composed of 178 metallic elements, each worked individually by hammering and vise and subsequently assembled through welds. The surface deliberately preserves signs of manual workmanship: grinding, engravings, cavities, welds and variations among the different elements make each part unique. The golden bindings that cross the fractures recall the principle of kintsugi, visually transforming the breakage into an integral part of the artwork. The silvery metallic color is the natural color of carbon steel after work and grinding. The piece has been protected with a transparent varnish to help preserve the surface and limit oxidation. Material: recycled carbon steel Elements: 178 Height: about 18 cm Maximum width: about 15 cm Weight: 1.85 kg Technique: hammering on a vise, MAG welding, grinding, hand painting Finish: glossy transparent varnish Conditions: like new
