Marie Alphonse Mucha: Title: “Affiche pour les Amants, 1895”. Signed on the plate. Color offset lithography, published in 1997 by Taschen. Condition: the work is in very good condition. Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is one of the undisputed masters of Art Nouveau and a fundamental figure in the history of decorative modern art. His instantly recognizable style, characterized by elegant female figures, flowing lines, ornamental halos and rich botanical motifs, has become synonymous with fin-de-siècle Paris and the rise of graphic art as a discipline to be collected. Mucha's works enjoy enduring international demand, with high prices for posters, lithographs and decorative panels, appealing just as much to visual-art enthusiasts, design fans and interior stylists. Among Mucha's posters for the "Théâtre de la Renaissance" this work occupies a special position. Unlike the format of "Gismonda", which is extremely tall and narrow, the painter here chose a horizontal rectangle. The scene, which is usually filled with a static image of Sarah Bernhardt, is enlivened here by a tableau of turbulence. Mucha's preference for a composition with emphasized planes is abandoned in favor of a kind of three-dimensional, offset composition. In the background a group of children looks at a puppet theater, while in the foreground a refined company is caught in the social bustle. The atmosphere of the elegant ballroom, together with contemporary fashion, evokes the decadent, stylish flair of the Belle Époque. Mucha himself was a welcome guest in the Parisian salons, and the ambience there was a source of inspiration for his art. Moreover, posters around the turn of the century enjoyed unprecedented popularity, especially in Paris, and more aesthetic value was attributed to them than before. Mucha was also influenced by the psychologically powerful works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and other Art Nouveau artists. Through effective staging, the portrayal of dramatic movements and the decor, theater proved an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Mucha's art. From a market and collecting perspective, Mucha stands alongside other highly sought-after names in modern and decorative art, such as Gustav Klimt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Egon Schiele and Aubrey Beardsley, while he also resonates with collectors of broader modern and contemporary icons such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Keith Haring, Banksy and Jeff Koons. His work often appears in searches related to Art Nouveau interiors, vintage posters, luxury furnishings, Belle Époque aesthetics, history of graphic design, and collectible prints. Never had been framed and is kept in a dark archival storage under protective acid-free paper. The shown photographs are part of the description. This artwork is carefully securely packed and shipped in protective acid-free paper. No shipping to the Canary Islands.
