Marina, Signed, Verdugo Landi, Spanish School, 20th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 61 x 38 cm (unframed), 83 x 60 cm (framed). The scene depicts a marine landscape in the twilight, where several boats sail on a serene sea beneath a blue-gray sky. Verdugo Landi’s loose, fluid brushstrokes convey the atmospheric vibration and movement of the water, while the silvery reflections of the horizon suggest a melancholic calm. The artist skillfully handles tonal and light values, achieving a balance between descriptive realism and the poetic evocation of the maritime landscape. The treatment of the sails and the horizon recalls traditional 20th-century Spanish marine painting, influenced by Post-Impressionist movements. This work falls within the lyrical and contemplative tradition that characterizes the depiction of the sea as a space of introspection and silent beauty.
