Marine Assemblage with Perforated Bursa Shell

Mixed Natural Marine Sponges on Antique Brass Stand – Sculptural Marine Assemblage A striking decorative composition featuring a mix of natural marine sponges, carefully arranged on an antique-style brass stand to create a highly sculptural and unusual display. The assemblage combines several different sponge forms, each with its own distinctive texture and structure. Pale cream specimens develop into delicate openwork fans with intricate lace-like frameworks, while darker brown sponges form denser folded and branching masses. A flatter reddish-brown sponge adds a broad contrasting element, balancing the composition and enhancing its three-dimensional character. The variety of textures is particularly impressive, ranging from fine reticulated structures and porous branching surfaces to dense, velvety and plate-like formations. Together they create an organic composition with strong visual depth and an almost botanical appearance. Mounted on an aged brass candlestick-style base, the marine specimens contrast beautifully with the warm metallic patina of the stand. The classical form of the base gives the piece the character of a historic Wunderkammer object while providing a stable and elegant presentation. Viewed from different angles, the arrangement reveals continuously changing silhouettes, openings, folds and natural asymmetries, making it especially engaging as a decorative natural history object. Maximum height on stand: 28 cm An exceptional marine assemblage ideal for a cabinet of curiosities, natural history-inspired interior or sophisticated decorative display.
