Explanation: in cel animation, the maker draws the moving parts of the animation on transparent sheets, or "cels." 24 cels are needed for one second of animation. The advantage is that fewer drawings are needed, because the same cels can be reused for the same movement. At the start of the last century, cel animation was invented in America. Animated films became a market product thanks to Walt Disney, which had to be produced quickly. To save time, the technique was developed whereby moving parts and non-moving parts of the drawing could be separated from each other. The animation is first drawn in pencil (line drawing) and then placed on a clear transparent sheet (cel). Because of the transparency, multiple layers can be stacked. On 1 December 2010, the cultural heritage of Marten Toonder (all the work that Marten Toonder himself created) was officially transferred by its heirs to the Dutch State, and since then is owned by the Netherlands. In November 2018, the archive of Marten Toonder Studios was donated to the Literature Museum in The Hague and to the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. See the last photo. Due to the developments above, the chance is excluded that original works by Marten Toonder himself and Marten Toonder Studios will be offered on the market from this inheritance. Lot: a beautiful, original film cel + the pencil/line drawing of Tom Poes. This cel (preserved, because almost all production material was destroyed at the time) was made by Marten Toonder Studios and was indeed used for the film. While watching the film, you will encounter the scene. A wonderful piece of animation art. The superb piece has been matted and then professionally framed in a heavy metal frame. This framing is included with the lot. It was bought in the 1980s at Animation Art, a shop that specialized in animation art but which no longer exists. The outside of the frame measures 38.5 x 41 cm. The space inside the matting measures 21 x 25 cm. See also the photos that are part of the description and give a good impression of what is offered. This beautiful piece of animation art will be sent to the new owner, fully protected, by insured post.
