Mask - Democratic Republic of the Congo (No reserve price)

An older mask of the Woyo, a tribe from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The painting is typical for masks that are part of the Ndunga. A ritual for which the mask is combined with an elaborate disguise that often consists of banana leaves and a variety of other materials. Therefore these masks are made larger than a face, which is also the case with this mask. The ritual is danced only by men. But the use of white on this mask suggests that it is a female mask. It is very beautiful, even if you can tell its age a bit. It originally came from a French private collection and was purchased by me in Paris in 2007. Height: 30 cm Width: 19 cm Material: wood and pigments Shipping exclusively insured with DHL.
