Among the Yoruba, the helmet masks called "gelede" are all designed according to the same scheme: a woman's head topped with a scene from daily life or myth, more or less complex. The gelede ceremonies are cathartic masquerades aimed at preventing and countering sorcery powers often attributed to women. These practices persist today, which explains why some masks include contemporary objects (cars, radio, etc.). They are distinguished by bright colors, known as "ripolin," which are frequently renewed before the masks are worn. This female mask is topped with a pot and four flasks of alcohol. Height 29 cm x Width 29 cm x Depth 31 cm. Weight: 1.46 kg. Shipped via registered Colissimo.
