Large Vintage Japanese Hand-Carved Wooden Nio Guardian Face – 42 cm Uzukuri Natural Grain Buddhist Sculpture for Japandi Wall Display 【Description】 An impressive and unusually large vintage hand-carved wooden Japanese sculpture (Omen / Mask), depicting the fearsome face of Nio (Kongo-Rikishi), the divine Buddhist guardian deity. Iconography & Masterful Grain Craftsmanship: Expressive Guardian Iconography: Carved in the classic A-gyo (open-mouthed) expression with intense glaring eyes, furrowed brows, and a high traditional topknot (Motodori), capturing the energetic protection spirit of Japanese temple sculpture. Uzukuri Grain Relief Finish: Masterfully worked to highlight the natural, dense annual rings of solid timber, creating an undulating texture across the entire facial contour without heavy painted pigments. Large-Scale Wall Sculpture: Standing at a commanding height of 42 cm, this solid timber carving features hollowed reverse construction and an embedded wire for immediate wall mounting. Contemporary Interior Display: In Japanese tradition, Nio guardian carvings are revered as powerful talismans that ward off evil spirits and bring protective energy to the home. Its large sculptural scale and warm natural timber tone make it an exceptional focal art piece for modern Japandi entryways, living rooms, or private Asian art collections. 【Condition】 Exhibits fine vintage condition overall with an authentic natural wood patina. Structural integrity is excellent with solid timber throughout. Physical condition notes include: Minor historic pressure mark / small wood compression on the upper section of the topknot.
