Massimo Riccò was born in Modena in 1961, where he currently lives and works. Towards the end of the 1990s he entered the art world, drawing with pencils, charcoals and sanguine, but soon shifted to color through oil and acrylic techniques. After an initial impressionist landscape approach, predominantly figurative in character, over the years there has been a steady evolution toward breaking form, entrusting color with the task of giving the work strength and dynamism. There is a constant search for composition of subjects of various kinds, and study of different materials to use to render the artistic language effective. For years he has been involved not only in artistic production but also in teaching painting, seeking to stimulate creativity and personal interpretation, a constant challenge in harmony with his vision of art. In addition to countless exhibitions, shows and recognitions, he can boast a high number of national awards. Web: www.massimoricco.eu Email: massimo.ric61@gmail.com Some of the numerous critical texts by art experts: Measure and proportion mark Riccò's works, which, never betraying his careful study of compositional rhythms, allow the viewer intervals of color with intense emotional impact. The potential of the chromatic tones, of which the artist shows absolute knowledge, orchestrate a rhythm that alternates balance and contrast, sharing the very nature of light, static and vibrant at once … The viewer becomes a witness to a process, to an alchemy, that transforms reality into abstract patches of color, of which the works bear traces, now more, now less generous. The passion of the moment, of that encounter between heart and reality, is generously revealed by an artist who does not spare his observer what happened: Massimo Riccò's poetry reveals the maturity and awareness of someone who has something to tell and can only entrust it to the canvas. (Margherita Fraccon – Museum Educator, contemporary art expert) Between nature and imagination, reality and abstraction of the real, flows the splendid painting of Massimo Riccò. Feelings frozen in their evocative moment and precious instants merge in color and light in a painting tied to expressionist art in its emotional vigor, where pathos flows in the chromatic that progresses toward immediate gestural painting… (Carla d’Aquino Mineo) Riccò injects into his works a color capable of embracing minimal variants, difficult pairings. This shows that he has achieved, in the course of his artistic career, mastery and confidence in his expressive means. Riccò's exquisite sensitivity is revealed by the themes he prefers, making them part of a reality where, always, there are qualities and intonation, and this to show that from the beginning sobriety and seriousness of intent, the final aim… Can we still speak of fantastic visions, or at times of day what surrounds man is truly fantastic as in the Maestro Riccò's paintings? The answer lies in originality and the quality leap that makes the Artist worthy of attention precisely for the ability to exalt the soul that stands beyond the appearance of things Riccò loves painting and paints with great passion, therefore he tells what his eyes see and his poetic nature suggests to him. He paints canvases that are admired with great pleasure, as the taste for beauty, the confidence in balancing lights and shadows, which are nothing more than “emotions” of the moment, expressed with strong personal character, as effective as ever, together with his generous soul, not separated from exuberant imagination, but contained within the bounds of good taste. People will still talk about him. (the critics of MC art studio – Livio Collina Foundation) Massimo Riccò's painting emerges as a light harmony that slowly approaches from his shades toward more substantial elements, appearing increasingly close to us, and initially confusing the viewer. Thus the image, in the immediate almost abstract reading, gains figurative substance, expanding more and more, giving the depicted image all its painterly reality. Two realities overlap without annihilating each other, blending in a graphic and chromatic symbiosis. From strong colors in the foreground, we gradually move to a well-defined figurative reality, the soul of the image and rich in gentleness. Faded subjects, but very precise, seemingly vague, but constructive, essential to the balance of the canvas. Beautiful glimpses appear as if from an uncertain ether, but slowly built with strength and confidence. The chromatic palette is strong and well distributed. Lights and shadows build volumes and distances, which perspective harmonizes. The buildings captured are from different times and the landscapes express vast areas. All of it emerges from a faint chromatic mist, which builds an immense breath… (Enrico Miglioli) Mastering the means of painting, its techniques, its seductions, and then remixing it all into an extremely original and evocative vision. Massimo Riccò still manages to surprise with a figurative timbre that seemed to have said everything, seemed to have expressed everything, except this delicate painting, which challenges vision on diversified and overlapped planes, in touches of color masterfully targeted… (Silvia Arfelli)
