Third Dynasty, ca. 2660 - 2590 BC. A finely carved alabaster (calcite) jar, characterised by an elongated, gently tapering body terminating in a narrow pointed base. The vessel features rounded shoulders, a short constricted neck and a thick, outward-projecting rolled rim. Its polished surface displays attractive natural bands of honey-coloured, cream and translucent stone, with delicate horizontal veining and irregular mineral patterns. The elegant proportions and carefully finished contours reflect the sophisticated tradition of Egyptian hard-stone vessel production during the Early Dynastic Period and the beginning of the Old Kingdom.
