Massive Peach Feldspar Sphere with Dramatic Dark Green...

Madagascar Moonstone — Presented in this auction is a monumental sphere of Feldspar, commonly known as the “Peach Moonstone,” originating from the rich deposits of Madagascar. With an impressive diameter of 21.5 cm and an exceptional weight of 13.8 kg, this specimen stands out not only for its size but also for its captivating aesthetics. The sphere-cut, perfectly polished, highlights a fascinating chroma dominated by warm peach and salmon tones, interrupted by dramatic bands and veins of dark green and black. The object presents itself as a true geological sculpture, capable of drawing attention in any setting. Close inspection of the surface reveals the mineral’s complex tapestry. The base color subtly varies, creating a nearly painterly effect reminiscent of a sunset sky. On this natural canvas, irregular and sinuous bands trace the intrusion of other minerals during formation. These inclusions, probably Epidote and Black Tourmaline, create a bold and dynamic color contrast. The impeccable polish gives the specimen a glassy luster, reflecting light and highlighting every tiny detail and the fine internal fracture lines that are an integral part of the stone’s natural history. Mineralogically, this specimen belongs to the vast feldspar family, tectosilicates that make up a significant portion of the Earth's crust. The peach coloration is due to micro-inclusions of hematite or other iron oxides. The green and black veins result from the simultaneous crystallization of minerals such as Epidote or Tourmaline within the same pegmatite from which the feldspar block was extracted. Transforming a rough boulder of nearly 14 kg into a geometrically perfect sphere is a remarkable lapidary achievement, requiring hours of specialized work, precision, and a deep knowledge of the material to avoid fracturing it. This sphere is not merely a mineral sample, but a visually striking and collectible object. Its size makes it a centerpiece, ideal for enriching a modern Wunderkammer, a professional studio, a library, or a high-design living space. Its spherical shape, a symbol of wholeness and harmony, complements its geological nature, making it a conversation piece that tells a story of millions of years. As the sphere is rotated, new “mineral landscapes” continuously emerge, making it a dynamic object and never monotonous. In sum, this lot represents an opportunity to acquire a spectacular fragment of Madagascar’s geology, transformed by human skill into a piece of natural art. The combination of imposing mass, warm chromatics, and unique natural patterns gives this Feldspar sphere a top-tier aesthetic and scientific value. It is an specimen intended for a discerning collector or for anyone looking to integrate into their space a piece of pure and powerful earthly beauty.
