Billingshurst, 21 February 2023, lot 625, where acquired by the present owner. This lot is accompanied by a copy of a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist. Born in Venice, Mauro Bonaventura graduated with a diploma in electronics at the age of 18. While waiting for his first job, he began an apprenticeship in traditional Venetian glassblowing and quickly developed a passion for the medium. In 1992, after observing a glass maestro at work, Mauro discovered lampworking. Fascinated by the precision and creative possibilities of the technique, he eventually left the glass factory and established his own studio. While producing traditional Venetian glass pieces to support himself, Mauro pursued his interest in sculpture by studying drawing, painting, anatomy and sculpture at an art-focused, liceo, in Venice, graduating in 2003. Since then, he has developed a distinctive style, creating highly detailed, lifelike glass figures, often enclosed within cages or spheres. He has also expanded his practice into other materials, including bronze. Mauro has participated in numerous exhibitions, particularly in the United States. In 2017, one of his significant works was exhibited at the GAA Foundation in connection with the Biennale Arte di Venezia. The following year, his work was also presented at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition. His works are held in the collections of major galleries and museums around the world, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Glass Museum Alter Hof Herding and the Hida Takayama Museum of Art.
